The University Celebrates the 94th Saudi National Day

ASU celebrated the Saudi National Day and the 94th anniversary of the Kingdom’s unification under the leadership of the founder, King Abdulaziz Al-Saud, may God rest his soul. The University organized the second edition of the “Dar Al-Saad” festival to embody the feelings of brotherhood and unity between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the two brotherly nations.
The festival included a variety of entertainment and cultural events such as the Najdi Ardah (traditional dance) and a poetry evening featuring poetry stars Khalid Al-Subaie, Fahd Al-Shadi, and Rashid Al-Subaie from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Waheeb Al Khaja, expressed his great happiness with the University’s celebrations of the Saudi National Day. He affirmed that this festival stems from the University’s keenness to share the national joys of their Saudi brothers.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees emphasized the University’s eagerness to hold this festival to share the celebrations with their brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the University’s Saudi students and graduates on their national holidays. He pointed out that such celebrations reflect ASU’s commitment to promoting cultural communication and patriotism among its students and developing strong relations between the Saudi and Bahraini peoples. He stressed that the national celebrations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are considered an integral part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s joys and festivities.
For his part, the President of the University, Professor Hatem Masri, expressed the University’s pride and honor in organizing this festival, which reflects the depth of Bahraini-Saudi relations. He emphasized ASU’s keenness to share the joys of their brothers in the Gulf Arab countries as part of its social responsibility, as the University is considered a leading Bahraini higher education institution. Additionally, it is among the universities recommended for study by the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which makes it one of the preferred learning destinations for Saudi students, especially from the Eastern Province.

Yesterday, the Applied Science University (ASU) celebrated a momentous occasion with its 17th cohort graduation ceremony, held at the prestigious Exhibition World Bahrain, Sakhir. The event not only marked the academic achievements with a batch of more than 400 students, but also commemorated two decades of academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement under the banner of ‘20 Years on the Road of Excellence.’
The ceremony commenced with Bahrain’s National Anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran in the presence of Education Minister, Dr Mohammad Mubarak Juma, ASU board of trustees chairman, Professor Waheeb Ahmed Al Khaja, university president, Professor Hatem Masri, London South Bank University international associate pro vice chancellor, Stuart Bannerman and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Middle East, Africa and South Asia executive director Dr Ashwin Fernandes, alongside other senior officials, notable figures and parents.
Professor Al Khaja, opened the ceremony with heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, stating, “Pride fills all of us at ASU, and today we are bringing together this elite group of graduates.” He emphasised the university’s commitment to preparing students for the workforce, stating, “We have worked to prepare and educate them with sincere and sincere efforts, so that they are qualified to enter the world with the skills they possess.”
He also reflected on ASU’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 2004, emphasising the university’s commitment to accelerate student learning, inspired by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Professor Waheeb further stated that “Since its inception in 2004, the university has been able to achieve distinguished successes and open new and pioneering horizons for our sons and daughters in Bahrain.”
Professor Masri echoed similar sentiments, “The university has continuously sought to take its steps towards excellence and progress, with the result being the great and honourable achievements we have achieved today at the local, regional and international levels.” He encouraged the graduates to be ambassadors for the university, adding, “Always remember that you are ambassadors for the university and its best representative is you as knowledgeable individuals, alongside the values and principles that the university has instilled.”
The 17th cohort showcases an accumulated total of more than 7,000 male and female graduates over the past 20 years. “As the graduates embark on their professional journeys, they do so with the knowledge that they are well-prepared to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, carrying with them the legacy of ‘20 Years on the Road of Excellence,’” said an ASU spokesperson.
The ceremony also featured remarks from distinguished international guests Mr Bannerman, and Dr Ashwin Fernandes, praising ASU’s commitment to global partnerships and academic rigour. “Their presence highlighted the university’s growing reputation on the international stage and its dedication to producing graduates who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world,” continued ASU spokesperson.
The ceremony was filled with poignant moments, including heartfelt speeches by graduates, faculty, and distinguished guests. The graduates were reminded of their potential to shape the future, with Professor Al Khaja stating, “You have broadened horizons on the path before you.” They were also encouraged to embrace lifelong learning and to use their education to serve their country and its wise leadership.
International Students’ Scientific Research Conference in Collaboration with Ajman University
Under the slogan “Empowering Youth in the Digital Era”, the University organized the International Student Conference (ISCAS 24) in cooperation with Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates. The conference witnessed the participation and cooperation of 94 students who presented 41 research papers in the fields of administrative sciences, law, engineering, and information technology.
This conference is part of the efforts made by the University and Ajman University to enhance cooperation and exchange academic, administrative, and research expertise, especially since the two Universities are bound by a memorandum of understanding aimed at utilizing human and material capabilities in a way that positively reflects on educational outcomes and contributes to graduating distinguished students capable of competing in the labour market and meeting its needs.
The conference aims to promote a culture of peer-reviewed scientific research, develop research skills among students of both Universities, support cooperation and exchange research experiences across various disciplines in the field of scientific research. Additionally, it seeks to enhance the spirit of competition in preparing scientific research, innovations, and research ideas, and encourage students to present their research to judging committees and showcase their research capabilities and potential in diverse specializations.
The conference organizers aspire to promote and develop a culture of scientific research, creativity, and innovation among the students of both Universities, producing prominent research leaders by highlighting and honing their talents, building bridges of scientific communication between them, contributing to serving their communities, and equipping them with a set of academic and personal skills. The conference includes research, innovations, and graduation projects in scientific fields for the University’s students across various disciplines.
Enhancing Communication with Graduates Through the Alumni Reunion Event

Under the patronage of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Waheeb Al-Khaja, the Career Development & Alumni affairs office in the Directorate of Student Affairs, in cooperation with the Alumni Club, organized the Alumni Reunion and Annual Meeting.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the University President, Professor Hatem Masri, Vice Presidents, and a large number of University members and graduates, many of whom hold senior positions in various institutions in the government and private sectors.
The event honoured the members of the Alumni Club’s Board of Directors for the sixth term for their work in serving the graduates and welcomed the new members of the Board of Directors for the seventh term. Additionally, it showcased the success stories of a group of University graduates and introduced the Alumni Club’s Board of Directors for the seventh term. In addition to honoring university graduate Hassan Al-Khalidi on the occasion of winning first place in a smart Investor competition that was held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The University is keen on strengthening its relationships with graduates, opening avenues for cooperation and support, thereby enhancing its mission, which emphasizes the importance of building sustainable and strong relationships between the University and its graduates. The large number of University graduates reflects the educational renaissance the University has undergone and represents the fruitful and effective cooperation between the University and its graduates through building sustainable relationships between the two parties, in line with the University administration’s directives to move forward in implementing more initiatives and mechanisms that support its graduates.
The graduates are a significant symbol affirming the University ‘s role in graduating competent and educated youth capable of serving their country and community, especially since a large number of the University ‘s graduates hold senior and leadership positions in many government and private institutions in Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Minister of Labor inaugurates Career Fair at Applied Science University
His Excellency Mr Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Jameel Humaidan, Minister of Labor, inaugurated the 11th edition of the Career Day event organized by the University in the presence of Professor Waheeb Ahmed Al-Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr Adel Nass Member of the Board of Directors and Trustees Professor Hatem Masri, President of the University, alongside representatives of the participating entities.
The Career Day saw the participation of 52 companies and institutions operating in the public and private sectors, aiming to introduce university students to the employment opportunities available in the job market for university graduates, in addition to providing guidance and counselling for young people in choosing specializations demanded in the job market.
On this occasion, the Minister of Labor praised this annual event organized by the Applied Science University, emphasizing the role of higher education institutions at all academic levels, scientific specializations, institutes, and training centres in supplying the job market in the Kingdom of Bahrain with qualified graduates equipped with the professional skills required by employers. He highlighted the importance of educational and training institutions keeping pace with job market developments and emerging employment patterns resulting from technological advancements, which necessitates the continuous updating of curricula, enhancing the quality of education, and making it suitable for the current and future needs of the commercial and economic sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees stated that the Career Day exhibition provides numerous employment and training opportunities for the University’s students and graduates, assisting them in integrating into the job market by providing them with the opportunity to meet companies and learn about job vacancies that match their specializations.
In turn, the University President, Professor Hatem Masri, affirmed that organizing the Career Day enhances communication between students and employers by familiarizing them with current and future market trends. He noted that the University is committed to supplying the job market with outstanding graduates in various fields, equipping its students and alumni with the skills and practical knowledge required by the job market.
The University President explained that Career Day aims to connect the University’s students and graduates with the ever-changing job market and its requirements by introducing them to the professional sectors that match their specializations and providing them with experience in applying for jobs, preparing resumes, and training for job interviews.
His Excellency the Minister of Labor toured the pavilions of the participating institutions at the exhibition, where he listened to explanations about the job opportunities offered by these institutions and the professional skills required for applicants. On the occasion of the Kingdom’s 47th Glorious National Day and 19th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne, and as part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives in supporting the community; the University received Down Syndrome Care Center and prepared a special day for them by rganized number of activities for them. ASU Academic and Administrative Staff, and Students participated in the activities that were rganized to the visitors such as drawing, playing games, face painting, doing magic with the magician, singing, dancing, and distributing gifts to the visitors. At the beginning of the day, the visitors had a warm welcome from the University. After that, the activities started by playing the National Anthem and distributing Kingdom of Bahrain flags to the visitors, then singings songs and poetries about the occasion of the Kingdom’s 47th Glorious National Day and 19th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne.The visitors had a fantastic time with the different activities, and they were pleased, they enjoyed the magic tricks provided by the magician, painting on pottery, face painting, participating in competitions, singing, dancing, and getting gifts. Also, a Number of Public Figures and Artists has been invited to participate in the activities of the event.
At the end of the visit that was on Wednesday, 12 December 2018, Down Syndrome Care Center management thanked Applied Science University for the memorable day and for supporting special needs and the community in general.

The Ceremony held under the patronage of Applied Science University and organized by Al Eker Charitable Society. Applied Science University presented in the Ceremony of honouring the distinguished male Students by Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad President of ASU, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami Manager of Community Engagement Office, and Mr Ebrahim Abbas Habib, Security Supervisor in ASU while Mrs Ruqaya Mohsin Mahmoud, Marketing and Public Relations Director, and Ayat Nass, Executive Secretary in President’s Office presented ASU in the Ceremony of honouring the distinguished female Students. Habib Jaffar AlMaghni, one of the best students in the Academic Year 2018/2019, honoured by Prof Ghassan during the event. The Ceremony was held for two days on Friday and Saturday 5-6 July 2019 where 508 students honoured.

On Saturday, 6 October 2018, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received a delegation from the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations Support at Ministry of Labour and Social Development, included Mrs Najwa Abdullatif Janahi Director of the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations, and a number of Directorate staff. During the visit, Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of Applied Science University, welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the role played by the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations Support. For her side, Mrs Najwa commended the efforts of the University in the various fields, including supporting civil society institutions and the community.
During the visit, a coordination meeting was held between the visiting delegation and a Group of Academic Staff of the University to discuss ways of cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The visiting delegation was briefed on the University’s infrastructure, which included Abdullah Nass Hall, laboratories and classrooms, sports hall, and training and continuous learning centre.

On Sunday, 5 May 2019, Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad, President of Applied Science University with the presence of Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office received a delegation from Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society. On February 11th, 2020 with the celebration of the Kingdom of Bahrain of the Sports Day, the Sports Club, Student Council and other clubs organised many sports activities starting from 10:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event was attended by Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of Board of Trustees, Prof Ghassan Aouad, University President, the Senior Management, the Academic and the Administrative Staff and Students. The event consisted of different sports, mainly walkathon, Football Dart, PlayStation tournament, billiard tournament, chess, carom, Air hockey and other activities. In addition, a Gym (Sphnix) offered to check BMI to both students and staff members. All the participants enjoyed the sports day as it broke the daily routine.

Dr Ferzana AlMaraghi, Director of Scientific Research at the Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council, was hosted by ASU on November 28th where she delivered an exciting presentation titled “Bahraini Women in Higher Education”. The presentation, which was attended by many ASU Students and Staff, highlighted the History of Women’s Role in Education in the Kingdom and a study conducted by Dr Ferzana on the current state of women’s contribution in Higher Education. The presentation included a timeline of Higher Education in the Kingdom which showed that Bahraini women were pioneers in seeking Higher Education in the region where the first batch of female scholars seeking University level education abroad dates back to late 30’s. Dr Ferzana showed interesting and important statistics on the number of female students studying in various disciplines at Bahraini Higher Education Institutions which surpass the international norms. She mentioned that Bahrain has been ranked first in the world in the percentage of women studying Sciences and ranked among the highest ten countries in the world in the number of female students and graduates in most fields. Dr Ferzana also mentioned that Bahraini women have been assuming Higher Positions at Higher Education Institutions where there is a significant number of Female Heads of Departments, Deans and Vice Presidents which indicates the competence of Bahraini Women in the Higher Education Sector as well as in other sectors. She also emphasised that all this has resulted from the dedication and hard work of Bahraini women and the continuous efforts of his Majesty King Hamad bin Isa and the government on empowering women in all sectors. The presentation was followed by an interactive session where the audience thanked Dr Ferzana for her interesting talk and the data she presented. The presentation was attended by Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of the University and some Officials of the University.
Royal Charity Organisation Visit

On December 1st, 2019, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University represented by Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Office Manager received a delegation from the Royal Charity Organisation, which included Mr Alaa Yousef Boudlama Head of Programmes and Activities and Mrs Tuqa Hani El Sayed Charity and Humanitarian Projects Specialist. A meeting was held with the presence of Dr Mohamed Soltan, Acting Head of Department of Design and Arts, Mohammad Azzam, Manager of the VP Office for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, to discuss the future events that are hoped to be held and which is the culmination of the memorandum of understanding signed between Applied Science University and Royal Charity Organisation.

On February 20th, 2020, Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, received in his Office the Bahraini Social Activist, Mr Yaqoob Mubarak, and Mr Gilberto Rosas from Mexico. The visit comes as part of the initiatives conducted by Community Engagement Office, in honour of Mr Yaqoob Mubarak’s voluntary efforts to represent the Kingdom in the Republic of Peru and his humanitarian efforts in reflecting the bright image of the Kingdom in international forums. Applied Science University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society on 17th March, 2022. The University’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding comes to achieve its strategic goals, including community partnership and Engagement. ASU was represented by Professor Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, and At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society was represented by Dr Hala Jamal, President of At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society. The ceremony was held in Abdullah Nass hall with the attendance of Senior Management of both sides.

7TH CULTURAL EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITION

On Sunday 2 December 2018, the Deanship of Student Affairs organized in collaboration with the College of Arts and Science its 7th educational exhibition on “Coexistence in Bahrain”, under the patronage of Shaikh Hesham bin Abdulrahman Al-Khalifa, the Governor of Capital Governorate, and the invitation from the President of the University Professor Ghassan Aouad. A large number of students, staff and VIP guests attended this successful event, including Professor Waheeb Al khaja, the chairman of the board of trustees, and a delegation from the Palestinian embassy.
Everyone who attended this event was very much impressed by the creative, innovative and detailed work performed by our students. Dr Rawya who organized this event, explained that the main goal of this exhibition is the use of modern learning models that encourage students to learn and develop their thinking skills by working in teams on various projects. The theme of the exhibition is “Coexistence in Bahrain”amongst various cultures, religious and ethnic backgrounds. There were 14 cultures representing various countries including; Gulf Cooperation Council, South Africa, Hawaii, Mexico, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Iraq, Japan, India, Jordan, Switzerland Netherlands and Italy. Students exhibited various traditions, costumes, landmarks, foods and drinks, currency, and much more related material. In addition, dancing spectacles were presented by Al Hawar school students in Abdulla Nass Hall showing the influence of Bahraini culture on art and traditions and a poetry was delivered by two of our students about coexistence.
