Students Volunteering Programs:
The possibilities for volunteering and engaging in fundraising activities at ASU are extensive. As a student, you have the chance to contribute to your local community through volunteering initiatives, participate in fundraising events, and even embark on impactful journeys around the globe when conditions permit. Likewise, faculty and staff members are also encouraged to partake in any volunteering or fundraising endeavors. Engaging in volunteer work serves as an enriching extracurricular pursuit during your university journey. Its merits are evident: it allows you to assist others and enact positive change, enhances your CV, facilitates the expansion of your social circle, and undoubtedly provides a sense of fulfillment. In spite of the challenges posed by the events of 2020 and the subsequent pandemic, ASU continued to nurture and organize numerous volunteering and fundraising undertakings. Wining the Second Place in the Capital Governorate Volunteering Pass Award

On February 16th, 2020, Applied Science University won the 2nd Place in the Capital Governorate Volunteering Pass Award for its contribution and continuous support for Community Engagement Activities and Initiatives related to the Project “Capital Governorate Document for Voluntary Work”. During the ceremony that was held in Gulf Hotel, Applied Science University presented by Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, was awarded by HE Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Capital Governor, for winning the 2nd Place. The ceremony attended by a delegation from ASU included Dr Faiza Zitouni acting Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development, and Dr Ramzi Nekhili, Dean of College of Administrative Sciences.
Applied Science University Participated in “Walking with the Blind”

On Saturday, 20 October 2018, Applied Science University was represented by a Group of its Staff and Students participated in “Walking with the Blind” March, which was held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate; and organised by Friendship Society of the Blind with the support of Applied Science University under the theme “The Society Support for the Blind … It is our Duty.” on the occasion of the International Day of the white stick near AlFateh Coast. ASU and many civil society organisations, citizens, and residents participated in the walking march.
The Governor of the Capital Governorate assured that the support of the community for people with special needs has an essential role in raising the level of determination and will to them to achieve their aspirations, explaining that the helpless person is incapable of the mind not the body; noting that the Capital Governorate pays great attention to those with special needs and activates their role and integration into society, in order to activate the role of community partnership in the service of society and citizens and residents alike.
President of Friendship Society of the Blind Mr Hussein Al-Halibi thanked the Governor of the Capital Governorate for his continuous support to the society over many years, he emphasised on the significant support of ASU and the participation of the University Staff and Students in this event, and he also thanked the Ministries, the Supporting Bodies and the Civil Society Organisations for their participation. He pointed out that the day of the white stick urges the support of the blind humanely and socially. The participation of ASU staff and Students is a continuous effort to support people with special needs and community as it is part of the activity series in community engagement.
Community Engagement Office at ASU Organized a Campaign to Clean the Coast of East Al Eker

In a collaborative effort between the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, Al Eker Charitable Society, and the One Heart Media Team, a voluntary initiative was organized on Saturday, January 26, 2019. The focal point of this initiative was the cleaning of the East Al Eker coastline. The primary objective of the campaign was to safeguard the environment and the public shores of Bahrain while concurrently enhancing awareness and responsibility among both the university populace and the wider community.
This campaign was centered around the meticulous removal of plastic, paper, glass, and other contaminants from the coastline. The intention was to ensure the protection of the local wildlife inhabiting Al Eker, including the precious mangroves and migratory bird populations. The collective of volunteers for this campaign encompassed not only Academic and Administrative Staff, Students, and Graduates of ASU, but also individuals from the Al Eker village and enthusiastic members of the local community.
Community Engagement Office at ASU Organized the Second Campaign to Clean the Coast of East Al Eker

With the esteemed patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Governor of the Capital Governorate, a collaborative endeavor between the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, Capital Governorate, Al Eker Charitable Society, and the “Capital Governorate Volunteering Document” initiative culminated in the orchestration of the second voluntary campaign aimed at cleansing the East Al Eker coastline. This remarkable event took place on Saturday, February 23, 2019, and was graced by the presence and participation of esteemed figures including Dr. Mohammad Yousef, Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Community Engagement, as well as Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs and Development. Also in attendance were Mr. Hassan Al Madani, Deputy Capital Governor, and Dr. Abdulwahid Al-Nakal, a Board Member of the Capital Municipal Council.
The ensemble of participants for this campaign comprised ASU’s dedicated Staff and Students, alongside alumni, members, and volunteers from the Al Eker Charitable Society, the “Capital Governorate Volunteering Document” initiative, the One Heart Media Team, Positive Wings Voluntary Team, and enthusiastic individuals from the local community. A pivotal aspect of this campaign was the planting of twenty mangrove trees, signifying a proactive step towards the conservation of Bahrain’s environment and the public shores. This collective effort also aimed to elevate awareness and responsibility levels among ASU’s members and the broader community.
Applied Science University Painted a House at Al Eker Village

Aligned with the endeavors of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University and synchronized with the auspicious month of Ramadan, an impactful undertaking unfolded. Collaboratively orchestrated with the Volunteers Club within the University and harmonized by the Al Eker Charitable Society, a notable campaign was set in motion. This initiative revolved around the beautification of a residence within the Al Eker village, and the creative efforts took place on a meaningful Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
Converging the skills and dedication of numerous ASU Staff and Students, alongside their counterparts from the Al Eker Charitable Society, the campaign centered on the artistic endeavor of painting the chosen house. Through collaborative strokes of color, the teams transformed the dwelling into an expression of unity and care. The representatives of the Al Eker Charitable Society voiced their gratitude towards ASU for its unwavering support, a testament to the institution’s commitment to community enrichment and its enduring alliance with the Al Eker Village.

ASU Community Engagement Office presented by Dr. Mohammad Al-Hamami, Director of the Office and Miss. Hanaa Dowaisan, a member of the Office, and Bahrain Deserve Team participated in the Arabic and International Day for Older Persons celebration 2018. The celebration was held under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Labour and Social Development Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, and organized by The National Committee for Elderly in Seef Mall Manama. This event was held to review the health of the elderly and to conduct awareness campaigns on food to generate good health [7].

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Professor Waheeb Al Khaja, affirmed that the University values with great appreciation and pride (The Good in Us) initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Foundation for Humanitarian Action, related to supporting efforts in fighting the Corona (Covid 19) virus, indicating that this initiative is not strange to His Highness, who has long history in charitable and humanitarian work. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees stated during a phone call through the open program that was shown on Bahrain TV and was dedicated about the (The Good in Us) initiative gives traders, companies and all individuals and institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain a great opportunity to contribute and participate in supporting national efforts to fight the Corona (Covid 19) virus, Stressing that the duty towards the homeland requires everyone to provide everything possible to serve this country and its wise leadership to end this epidemic that is sweeping the world.

Cyclones Cycling Club join the Bahrain Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness program. On Friday BCS PINKATHON 2020, ASU staff and students took part in this breast cancer awareness programme, the staff and students donated to Bahrain Cancer Society in order to help the society create the awareness.

During the visit, a meeting was held with a number of heads of associations with a specialty in the field of childhood to discuss methods of cooperation. ASU Entrepreneurship Day(7th 4. Nov 2020)

ASU held a fundraising programme to embed entrepreneurship in its programmes. An audience of more than sixty members of staff and students gathered for this purpose. The discussion was led by Prof Ghassan Aouad, Prof Saad Darwish, Dr Chris Coutts, Dr Atif Al Shabarawi, and Dr Abdul Hassan Al Dairi. The event was interactive and the three presenters gave an excellent profile of the “Entrepreneurship University”. Staff students and local community reflected high commitment and desire to embed entrepreneurship in our curricula. At the entrepreneurship development level, a key role of training is to develop tools and programmes that support the creation of an entrepreneurial culture. ASU gave the guidelines for students to have how to start a startup in addition to providing the necessary support for students who want to Entrepreneurship. A fundraising was raised by the university and an invitation was sent to staff and students to donate for young entrepreneurs to help them startup their business.

As a part of Applied Science University’s commitment in participating in the community engagement and service activities, which provide opportunities for students, alumni, and staff to participate, engage, and serving the community, the University participated for the second year in “Ramadan “campaign that aims to distribute 30000 iftar meals on the road in the Kingdom of Bahrain in boxes with ASU logo. The campaign was organized by Fazat Shabab Society with the collaboration of the General Directorate of Traffic and with the participation of some institutions from the Government and Civil Society. Runners from Bahrain will take part in an international marathon to support Beirut following August’s tragic port blast. In light of the explosion a virtual 5km charity race organised by the Beirut Marathon Association will run until Thursday with many organisations from all over the world taking part.

As part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives; and on the 18th Anniversary of the National Action Charter, Community Engagement Office organised a visit to AlBer House for Parents Care on Thursday, 14 February 2019. Applied Science University visiting delegation included a number of Academic and Administrative Staff and Students. Some activities were implemented to cheer up and support the elderly during the visit and gifts ware distributed to them by the University delegation. In addition, methods of cooperation were discussed between ASU and AlBer House for Parents Care, after that, the University delegation saw the facilities in AlBer House for Parents Care. At the end of the visit, the management and residence of AlBer House for Parents Care thanked ASU Academic and Administrative Staff and Students who participated in the visit.

The march was held on October 12th, 2019 near AlFateh Coast.
ASU participation came to fulfil its vision and mission to support the Bahraini society in all its segments. The University attaches great importance to serving the community by strengthening its services to support humanitarian initiatives in various fields and with all categories, especially those with special needs.
It is worth mentioning that the University is keen to participate in events that serve the community and enrich volunteer work at various levels. It organized many events that reinforce its role in engaging with the community by hosting events highlighting the needs of special needs.

Bahrain Cancer Society organised the Walk-A-Thon under the theme “Spread Hope” on the festival month of Breast Cancer Awareness in Water Garden City, Seef District on October 25th, 2019. The University’s participation comes in fulfilment of its strategic vision and objectives, including Community Educational, Awareness and Humanitarian Activities, including support for voluntary and charitable societies and solidarity with cancer patients. The event was characterized by government institutions’ wide participation and Civil Society Institutions in various sectors and age groups.

The conference was held on November 16th, 2016 under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom. King Hamad Global Centre organised the conference for Peaceful Coexistence and This is Bahrain Society in Isa Cultural Centre.
Honouring by HE Minister of Labour and Social Development

On December 26th, 2019, Applied Science University presented by Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, Dr Mohammed Yousif, VP for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office, and some Academic and Administrative Staff, was honoured by HE Mr Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Hamaidan, the Minister of Labour and Social Development, for supporting the online platform system to train the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) remotely on financial management. The cooperation between University and the Ministry comes as a part of the Community Engagement Office at ASU initiative in building the online platform that aims to train 400 employees and volunteers from NGOs for 12 months and granting them a Professional Certificate in the Management of Funds of NGOs, and qualifying them for the position of Financial Secretary or Accountant in the Boards of NGOs. Training Programmes will be available monthly through the online platform, the trainee will be able to view the training material according to the time available to him and will be able to submit the tests at the end of each unit and will receive an evaluation result electronically to be able to move to the next training unit. During the honouring ceremony of launching the online platform, the Minister was given an honorary trophy to Professor Ghassan Aouad, The University President and Dr Mohammed Yousif, VP for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement for their attendance. Moreover, the Minister give appreciation certificates to Dr Mohammad Alaa Al- Hamami, Manager of CE Office and Associate Professor in Department of Management Information Systems, Dr Talal Al Alkawi, Associate Professor in Department of Accounting and Finance, Dr Ammar Esam Alsammarraee Assistant Professor in Department of Accounting and Finance, Professor Murad Abdalah AlJanabi, Academic Staff in Department of Public Law, Dr Mohammad Abdalhafid AlKhamaiseh, Assistant Professor in Department of Private Law, Dr Murad Ali AlTarawneh, Assistant Professor in Department of Private Law, Mr Baha Eldeen Sami Karaimeh, Office Manager of Public Relations Office, and Mr Yusuf Ahmed AlGhawi, Administrator in Marketing and Public Relations Directorate, for their contribution and efforts in building the online platform. It also worth to mention that the Ministry provide 20 accounts for ASU students to participate in the online platform. A future visit will be conducted by the Directorate of Non-Government Organisations Support at Ministry of Labour and Social Development to ASU to honour ASU Staff. They participate in building the online platform and couldn’t attend the honouring ceremony of launching the online platform.
Hosting the Closing Ceremony of the 11th Edition of theبيتكم بيتنا “ ” Project

As a part of the activities of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, ASU hosted the closing ceremony of the 11th Edition of the “ بيتكم بيتنا ” Project. Ayadi Relief Organisation organised the Ceremony on February 15th, 2020 in Abdulla Nass Auditorium at the University Campus. The ceremony was the culmination of the project that was launched by Ayadi Relief in its 11th Edition, which included the process of restoration and furnishing of three homes of Bahraini families during a whole month and with the participation of 3 volunteer teams of school students. During the ceremony, the volunteers’ experience in the project was presented, and honouring the participating teams and supporters.

On February 20th, 2020, Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, received in his Office the Bahraini Social Activist, Mr Yaqoob Mubarak, and Mr Gilberto Rosas from Mexico. The visit comes as part of the initiatives conducted by Community Engagement Office, in honour of Mr Yaqoob Mubarak’s voluntary efforts to represent the Kingdom in the Republic of Peru and his humanitarian efforts in reflecting the bright image of the Kingdom in international forums. ASU Delivers a Lecture on “Internet Fraud” to the Local Community

ASU Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society

Applied Science University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society on 17th March, 2022. The University’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding comes to achieve its strategic goals, including community partnership and Engagement. As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, and in conjunction with the Prophet’s birthday, the Community Engagement Office organized a visit to Batelco’s Child Care House (Alternative Care) on Saturday, October 8, 2022, with the participation of a number of academic and administrative staff, the Volunteers Club, students and graduates of the university and the local community . During the visit, a number of recreational activities were held and gifts were distributed to the residents of the house.

As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, and under the patronage of H. E. Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, Applied Science University, represented by the President of the University Professor Ghassan Aouad, and a number of academic and administrative staff, students, and graduates participated in the Walking with the Blind March that was organized by Friendship Society of the Blind, under the slogan (Society’s support for the blind.. is our duty), on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the inner walkway of AlFateh Coast. The university’s participation comes within the activities organized by the Community Service Office in order to achieve the university’s mission and strategic goals.

Within the initiatives of the Applied Science University for community Engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office, in cooperation with the Al Eker Charitable Society, organized a campaign to clean the coast of the village of Al-Aker (opposite the university building), which comes as a continuation of the previous series of campaigns that the office implemented in cooperation with the Society, on Saturday 26th November, 2022 at 3:30 p.m., with the participation of a large number of academic and administrative staff, the University Volunteers Club, and volunteers of Al Eker Charitable Society.

The university participate in the sixth Royal Humanitarian Foundation Forum, which was held under the slogan of humanitarian initiatives on 12th December, 2022. The university graduate, Sheikha Al-Zayed, and her team won second place for their initiative, which they participated in in the forum.

During the visit, in which a group of academic and administrative staff, volunteer club, students and alumni participated, they learned about the activities of the home, held a number of events and distributed gifts of appreciation to the residents of the home.

As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office organized a visit to the Down Syndrome Care Center, in the presence of the Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Community Engagement, Dr. Muhammad Youssef, and with the participation of a large number of the university’s academic and administrative staff. During the visit, which was held on Thursday 23rd February, 2023, the visitors learned about the center’s facilities and activities. Gifts were distributed to residents, and flowers were presented to the center’s workers.
