Local start-up assistance
- More than 800 students have benefited from the Business Incubator Centre’s activities (from 2019 to 2023).
- The Business Incubator Centre supervised 219 start-ups (from 2019 to January 2023).
- Winning 3 awards for (AlFaza Start-up). Best Company winner for the year 2019 at Injaz Bahrain, and Boeing Stem Challenge Award by Injaz AlArab, and 2019 Product of the Year Award by Injaz AlArab.
- Winning 2nd place winner in the Youth Solutions Initiative organized by the Arab Youth Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth & Sports – Bahrain – 2019.
- In total 2685 students so far benefited from the Centre, where more than 50 activities took place.
- ASU has included “Entrepreneurship and innovation” in its strategic plan, to ensure the development of a robust and supportive environment that fosters entrepreneurship and innovation.
- There are 55% female business entrepreneurs and 45% male entrepreneurs in the Business Incubator Centre.
- Business Incubator Centre launched officially on 29th September 2019.
- Introduce entrepreneurship course (BA161) as a business core course for all colleges, that has been taught since 2018.
- 53% of new firms are in the manufacturing sector, followed by 22% in retail, 21% in services, and 8% in the agricultural sector.
- From 2018 to 2023, there is a gradual increase in sustainability. Currently, 26% of the businesses in the Incubator Centre are sustainable.
- The Centre recognized 7% sustainable startups in 2018-2019, 16% in 2019-2020, and 16% in 2020-2021. In 2021-2022, the figure rose to 27%, then to 34% in 2022-2023.
- ASU has a significant impact on society and Bahrain’s economy as ASU encourages the development of future entrepreneurs within the various sectors (including; manufacturing, Agriculture, Information Technology, energy, retails, services, etc.) in order to support Bahrain’s commitment to achieving United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aligned with Bahrain’s Vision 2030.
- ASU is committed in working with its Global Partners on entrepreneurial development activities, and knowledge transfer via workshops, lectures, forum etc. The recent activities were with London Southbank University, workshops, and a forum entitled “Sharing Good Teaching Practice (Post Covid) Research and Enterprise stream”. ASU signed various MOUs with various institutions to reinforce its commitment towards entrepreneurship development activities (Hope ventures, University for Peace, LSBU, Flat6Labs, Huawei Technologies Bahrain WLL, etc.).
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation is an important pillar in ASU’s strategic Plan (vision, mission and strategic objectives). ASU fosters an entrepreneurial culture by promoting innovation and entrepreneurship activities and encourages our graduates to be job creators rather than job seekers. ASU offers potential opportunities for our students to participate in various activities and competitions at local, regional and international levels. (i.e. Winning “the Company for the year 2019”, Injaz Bahrain, and 2nd in the Arab Region, and qualified team TISM to the national competition Injaz, Bahrain 2022-23).
