Seminar on “Acoustic Analysis in Housing Units: A Case Study of an Eskan Bank Project.”

This seminar will focused on a research project conducted in collaboration between Eskan Bank and the university. The project investigated the use of acoustic analysis to improve the sound insulation of housing units. The seminar presented the findings of the project and discuss the implications for the design and construction of housing units in Bahrain.

This seminar was an invaluable opportunity for all staff members to learn about the latest research in acoustic analysis and its application to the design and construction of housing units.

  • Date and Time-Monday, 25-9-2023 at 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm,
  • Location: Room T001, the ground floor of the Technology Building.
  • Speaker: Dr Wael Abdelhameed, HoD, Civil and Architectural Engineering Department, College of Engineering.

Research collaboration with Eskan Bank on Two Projects

ASU’s College of Engineering and Eskan Bank are collaborating on two research projects using three villa types from the Danat Al Barakah Project in Bahrain as case studies. The first project aims to reduce energy consumption by analyzing and implementing sustainable resources and materials in residential design. The second project focuses on improving acoustic conditions in residential buildings through detailed analysis and proposing methods to enhance sound insulation, ultimately promoting sustainability and better living environments. The two projects resulted in the International Conference on Green Engineering Material and Technology (ICGEMaT 2023) conference papers:

  1. Energy Analysis in Housing Units
  2. Acoustic Performance of Buildings as a Tool to Save Economic Resources
  3. Noise Reduction in Housing Projects

Design Day: Showcasing Creativity and Sustainability with Cardboard

Celebrating creativity and sustainability, Design Day recently showcased the ingenuity and talent of interior design students. The event’s highlight was the students’ collaborative effort in constructing display stands using 1:1 scale cardboard. These pavilions featured an impressive array of exhibits, meticulously designed by students who worked closely with local craftsmen. This collaboration provided students with practical experience and insights into traditional handicraft techniques, bridging the gap between modern design practices and cultural heritage.

The day emphasized students’ skills in working with sustainable materials, particularly cardboard, to create practical and visually appealing designs. By using cardboard as their primary material, the students demonstrated their commitment to environmental responsibility while showcasing the versatility of this often-overlooked resource in design.

The exhibition encouraged widespread interaction among students and visitors, sparking conversations about creative endeavors and sustainable practices. Visitors were impressed by the students’ ingenuity and attention to detail, whether in constructing the exhibition stands or creating the exhibits. They admired the seamless integration of traditional crafts and contemporary design concepts, leading to meaningful discussions about the importance of sustainability in design and the crucial role of creativity in addressing global challenges.

The event not only highlighted students’ creativity but also strengthened the relationship between design and Bahraini heritage, promoting the use of sustainable materials and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
