Educational programmes on ecosystems
The Graduation Project course of the Architectural Engineering program focuses on student projects that aim to promote conservation and sustainable utilization of land. The assessment of this course involves evaluating and optimizing student design ideas to select the most sustainable and practical idea for land conservation and preservation. Each student then proceeds to detail their selected design idea. In addition, there are two research projects related to sustainability and energy analysis/environmental design:
For Sustainability:
The research project titled "Sustainable Building Components for Innovative Environmentally Friendly Construction: Graphene-based Concrete in Construction" involves collaboration with London South Bank University (LSBU) and industry partners through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Almanarateen Company. The authors from ASU are Dr. Wael Abdelhameed, Dr. Mohamed Salama, Dr. Faiza Zitouni, and Mr. Yusuf Buzaboon, while the authors from LSBU are Prof. Udeaja Emmanuel Chika, Dr. Suela Kellici, and Dr. Lucy Ogbenjuwa.
A paper from this research project titled "Decarbonisation of Concrete Using Graphene-based Materials in the Cementitious Mix Design" is currently under evaluation. The conference link for this paper can be found here: https://bse.bh/en/conferences/2379/
For Energy Analysis and Environmental Design:
The research project titled "Reducing Energy Consumption through Resources and Materials: A case study of residential projects' design in Bahrain" is authored by Dr. Wael Abdelhameed. It involves collaboration with Eskan Bank on their housing projects.
A paper from this research project titled "Economic Environmental Approach in Energy Consumption of Houses" is also under evaluation. The conference link for this paper can be found here: https://bse.bh/en/conferences/2379/
These research projects and papers contribute to supporting land ecosystems through the education of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15.
The Graduation Project course of Civil Engineering program consists of students’ projects related to:
Ecosystem improvement and preservation.
The students learn and apply how to improve the quality and preserve the resources for human health and welfare, as well as the marine life:
From students’ projects:
1. Assessment of urban flood risk potential and design of storm water system
2. Flood inundation modelling of natural channels for different probabilities of occurrence
3. Design of water supply system for an urban area
4. Design of sewage water network for an urban area.
5. Design of rainwater harvesting system.
6. Grey water treatment system in the household and design of storm water system.
