Health outreach programmes 


 As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, The ASU Community Engagement Office, in cooperation with Al Eker Charitable Society, delivered a campaign to prepare and rehabilitate bathrooms for the elderly (senior citisens) in two houses in the village of Al Eker on 17th June 2023, with the participation of a number of the ASU Academic Staff 

On Saturday, 20 October 2018, Applied Science University was represented by a Group of its Staff and Students participated in “Walking with the Blind” March, which was held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate; and organized by Friendship Society of the Blind with the support of Applied Science University under the theme “The Society Support for the Blind ... It is our Duty.” On the occasion of the International Day of the white stick near AlFateh Coast. ASU and many civil society organisations, citizens, and residents participated in the walking march.

The Governor of the Capital Governorate assured that the support of the community for people with special needs has an essential role in raising the level of determination and will to them to achieve their aspirations, explaining that the helpless person is incapable of the mind not the body; noting that the Capital Governorate pays great attention to those with special needs and activates their role and integration into society, in order to activate the role of community partnership in the service of society and citizens and residents alike.

President of Friendship Society of the Blind Mr Hussein Al-Halibi thanked the Governor of the Capital Governorate for his continuous support to the society over many years, he rganized on the significant support of ASU and the participation of the University Staff and Students in this event, and he also thanked the Ministries, the Supporting Bodies and the Civil Society Organisations for their participation. He pointed out that the day of the white stick urges the support of the blind humanely and socially. The participation of ASU staff and Students is a continuous effort to support people with special needs and community as it is part of the activity series in community engagement.


Under the patronage of Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad, President of Applied Science University; and as a part of the Community Engagement Office initiatives at Applied Science University, CE Office and Deanship of Students Affairs in cooperation with King Hamad University Hospital and Life Pulse BH Team rganized “ASU Health Day” at the University campus on Tuesday, 4 December 2018.

The Health day included many activities such as blood donation campaign under the supervision of the Medical Staff of King Hamad University Hospital, Life Pulse BH Team from their side conducted comprehensive health checks such as blood pressure, blood sugar, natural therapy, dental examination, and provide health education on various topics such as public health, physiotherapy, sports therapy, mental health, food hygiene, in addition to measuring eye and eye pressure by Ghanim Optician. In addition, Shifa al Jazeera Hospital participated in providing tests to the attendees that included University Academic and Administrative Staff, students, and the local community.

The Health Day also included questions, competitions and entertainment programmes for the attendees and the distribution of prises, including a ticket to Dubai.

The University President and thanked the organisers and participants, and some group pictures were taken.

Under the Patronage of His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Shura Council, and as a part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University Initiatives; the International Organization for Child Protection in collaboration with Applied Science University rganized “You Are Not Alone” celebration. The celebration was held on the occasion of the International Day of Awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder with the presence of His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Shura Council, and Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad, President of Applied Science University on Saturday, 6 April 2019.

The Ceremony was opened by Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad speech. In his speech, Prof Ghassan welcomed and thanked His Excellency Mr Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of Shura Council for patronage the celebration, and thanked the Regional Office of the International Organization for Child Protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain and all participants, organisations and supporters. “Our goal of this event is to raise awareness of autism among all groups of society and to identify, even in a simple way, the suffering of children or their dependents, Prof Ghassan said. Prof Ghassan also thanked the Ministry of Education for providing opportunities to integrate autistic children in public schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Ceremony also included honouring the parents and the participating and supporting parties, followed by a play presented by the students of ASU in cooperation with the students of Rifaa Al Sharqi School for Boys under the title “Do you want me?”.  The University also presented a video called “My Story”, which recounted the story of a child with autism and how parents and society deal with its situation. The Ceremony ended with the participation of the child Nasser Habeel, which it was a sports show, and the graduate student Hajar Al-Manaa by presenting an educational entertainment website for children with autism. ASU also hosted kids from Autism centres and rganized a number of activities and games for them. Social and Health Centres and Participants from the local community participated in the exhibition, that was held during the Ceremony. A group of ASU students also participated in the exhibition by presenting artworks related to Autism.  At the end of the celebration, Prof Ghassan and Mr Salman Al-Subaie Manager of Regional Office of the International Organization for Child Protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain honoured all the participating bodies and the voluntary rganizednal committees, which contributed to the success of the event.

As part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives, Community Engagement Office organised a visit to Aysha Intervention Center on Wednesday, 17 February 2019.

Applied Science University visiting delegation included a number of Academic and Administrative Staff and Students. Some activities were implemented to cheer up and support the members of the centre during the visit and gifts ware distributed to them by the University delegation.

At the end of the visit, the Management of Aysha Intervention Center thanked ASU Academic and Administrative Staff and Students who participated in the visit.

On Tuesday, 19 February 2019, Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received and met the International Organization for Child Protection (INOCPT) and a number of Heads of Associations with a speciality in the field of autism and early intervention centres and international organisations and those interested in autism.

During the meeting, CE Office and visitors discussed cooperation frameworks and finding ways to raise awareness about Autism.

As part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives in supporting the various sectors of society; On Tuesday, 5 March 2019, Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University visited the Gulf Disability Society. During the visit, methods of cooperation between the two parties have been discussed.

During the visit, a meeting was held with a number of heads of associations with a specialty in the field of childhood to discuss methods of cooperation.

As part of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives to support all segments of the community, Community Engagement Office visited Enmaa Centre for Special Education on Tuesday, 12 March 2019. During the visit, a meeting was held between the two sides to discuss methods of cooperation.

On Thursday, 14 March 2019, Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received and met a group of community service activists and Volunteers. During the meeting, CE Office and visitors discussed the preparation for the activities that will be organised by the Office in cooperation with the International Organization for Child Protection (INOCPT) and a number of associations with a speciality in the field of childcare.

As a part of the Initiatives of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, which includes the provision of consultations to civil society institutions by the University; the CE Office coordinate some meetings that will be held to provide consultations sessions to the Bahrain Deaf Society. Mr Salem Khalaf Salem Alateyyat will deliver the consultations sessions, a Lecturer in the College of Administrative Sciences at Applied Science University, to improve the Bahrain Deaf Society’s Strategic Plan.

It is our Duty.” On the occasion of the International Day of the white stick. The march was held on October 12th, 2019 near AlFateh Coast. ASU participation came to fulfil its vision and mission to support the Bahraini society in all its segments. The University attaches great importance to serving the community by strengthening its services to support humanitarian initiatives in various fields and with all categories, especially those with special needs. It is worth mentioning that the University is keen to participate in events that serve the community and enrich volunteer work at various levels. It organized many events that reinforce its role in engaging with the community by hosting events highlighting the needs of special needs.

As a part of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives, ASU presented by a many academic and administrative staff, students, alumni and their families; participated in “Spread Hope” Walk-A-Thon 2019. Bahrain Cancer Society organised the Walk-A-Thon under the theme “Spread Hope” on the festival month of Breast Cancer Awareness in Water Garden City, Seef District on October 25th, 2019. The University’s participation comes in fulfilment of its strategic vision and objectives, including Community Educational, Awareness and Humanitarian Activities, including support for voluntary and charitable societies and solidarity with cancer patients.  The event was characterised by government institutions’ wide participation and Civil Society Institutions in various sectors and age groups.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, affirmed that the University values with great appreciation and pride (The Good in Us) initiative launched by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Affairs and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Foundation for Humanitarian Action, related to supporting efforts in fighting the COVID-19, indicating that this initiative is not strange to His Highness, who has a long history in charitable and humanitarian work. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees stated during a phone call through the open programme that was shown on Bahrain TV and was dedicated about the (The Good in Us) initiative gives traders, companies and all individuals and institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain a great opportunity to contribute and participate in supporting national efforts to fight the COVID-19, Stressing that the duty towards the homeland requires everyone to provide everything possible to serve this country and its wise leadership to end this epidemic that is sweeping the world.

Under the patronage of Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, and in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Campaign, the University held the Pink October event on 7th November, 2021. The event organised by the Women’s Club in cooperation with the Student Council in its 14th session, the Health Unit and the ASU Community Engagement Office.

The ASU Community Engagement Office organised a Gergaoun Event for the children residents in King Hamad University Hospital on 16th April, 2022, with the participation of Prof. Ayman Al-Dmoor the Dean of the College of Art and Science, and a number of ASU Academic and Administrative Staff.

Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, Applied Science University, represented by the President of the University Professor Ghassan Aouad, and a number of academic and administrative staff, students, and graduates participated in the Walking with the Blind March that was organized by Friendship Society of the Blind, under the slogan (Society’s support for the blind.. is our duty), on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the inner walkway of AlFateh Coast. The university's participation comes within the activities organized by the Community Service Office in order to achieve the university's mission and strategic goals.

As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, the ASU Community Engagement Office organized a campaign to present Roses to doctors at King Hamad University Hospital on Thursday 11th November, 2022 on the occasion of Bahraini Doctor's Day. The participation of the university staff and students is among the activities organized by the Community Engagement Office to achieve the university's mission and strategic goals.

As part of the university's initiatives for community engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Evidence, organized a Lecture on drug damage, presented by Major Hamad Rashed Al-Muhaiza, Head of the Criminal Information Division in the General Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Evidence on 30th November, 2022.

Within the initiatives of the Applied Science University for community engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office organized a visit to Azhar Al-Harak Nursery Children affiliated to the Bahraini Center for International Mobility, and meet the nursery children and provide gifts to them on Wednesday 7th December 2022.

As part of the Applied Science University's initiatives for community engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office organized a visit to the Down Syndrome Care Center, in the presence of the Vice President for Administration, Finance, and Community Engagement, Dr. Muhammad Youssef, and with the participation of a large number of the university's academic and administrative staff. During the visit, which was held on Thursday 23rd February 2023, the visitors learned about the center’s facilities and activities. Gifts were distributed to residents, and flowers were presented to the center’s workers.


In collaboration with the ASU Community Engagement Office, the Counselling Office of the Directorate of Student Affairs, delivered a Lecture titled “The Psychology of Marriage”, to ASU Students, on 3rd March 2023. The Lecture was presented by Dr. Marwa Al-Mulla, Assistant Professor at the College of Arts - University of Bahrain.

In collaboration with the ASU Community Engagement Office, the Counselling Office of the Deanship of Student Affairs, delivered a Lecture titled “Psychological security”, to ASU Students, on 21st May 2023. The Workshop was presented by Professor Murad Abdalah AlJanabi, Academic Staff in Department of Public Law.

The teams of Applied Science University participated in the National League of Universities’ Technical Meeting in its Second Official Version, which starts on January 17th, 2020.

On February 11th, 2020 with the celebration of the Kingdom of Bahrain of the Sports Day, the Sports Club, Student Council and other clubs organised many sports activities starting from 10:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event was attended by Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of Board of Trustees, Prof Ghassan Aouad, University President, the Senior Management, the Academic and the Administrative Staff and Students.

The event consisted of different sports, mainly walkathon, Football Dart, PlayStation tournament, billiard tournament, chess, carom, Air hockey and other activities. In addition, a Gym (Sphnix) offered to check BMI to both students and staff members. All the participants enjoyed the sports day as it broke the daily routine.

ASU hosted the coordination meeting of the Bahrain Sports Federation for Universities with representatives of Universities in Kingdom of Bahrain headed by Shaikh Dr Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, President of the Federation, in preparation for the launch of the National Universities League 2019/ 2020.
