The Deanship of Student Affairs has the responsibility for ensuring that students are exposed to and involved in various activities and provides various opportunities for the students to develop their personal and educational potential. ASU encourages the students to be involved in the Student Council, clubs, events, workshops, national and international celebrations, sporting activities, competitions, national and international fora, debates, and extracurricular activities. Students are informed of forthcoming activities through ASU communication channels, including social media.

Student Clubs, societies or associations are known as students clubs. They are held under the supervision of student services office. Students at Applied Science University operate them. They encourage students to participate in-group activities. These activities would allow them to develop personal and professional growth, learn leadership skills and serve the community.

Shared sports facilities
Applied Science University boasts state-of-the-art sports facilities, providing students and staff with ample opportunities for physical activity and exercise. These facilities not only promote physical fitness and well-being but also contribute to the overall health of individuals by reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. By providing access to sports facilities, the university supports SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Physical activity is a key component of a healthy lifestyle, and the availability of sports facilities at the university encourages students and staff to engage in regular exercise, supporting their physical and mental health. The university also contracted a local Sports Club (Ma’ameer Cultural and Sports Club) to add to the facilities available to at the university, below are some pictures of the university facilities and the facilities at the Ma’ameer Cultural and Sports Club:
Champions of the fifth edition of the University Football League

Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the final match of the fifth edition of the University Football League was held. It brought together the University team and the American University team at Khalifa Sports City Stadium and ended with the University team winning by two goals to one.
The University team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the competition, leading them to win the league title for the second time in their history. Their player, Saleh Al-Zubaidi, was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament, showcasing both his individual and collective excellence.
Expressing his pride and appreciation for the players and the level of sportsmanship they displayed throughout the championship, Professor Waheeb Al-Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, affirmed that the university’s administration will spare no effort in supporting them to continue achieving titles and accomplishments.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees stated that the final evening of the league was remarkable in all its details, amidst a wonderful and well-organized atmosphere, both technically and in terms of the audience. He extended his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Authority for Sports, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, for his sponsorship of university sports in Bahrain. He also thanked all the entities responsible for organizing the championship for their exceptional efforts in its success.
Professor Hatem Masri confirmed the university’s pride in participating in the University Football League, noting that the university attaches great importance to sports activities in response to the initiatives of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa in supporting Bahraini sports. He pointed out that the university participated in this year’s championship with the gold as its goal, and succeeded in achieving it. He expressed his gratitude to the players for their outstanding performance during the tournament.
Finally, the university president stated that the university, as part of its commitment to enhancing the sports aspect for students, grants scholarships of up to 50% for student-athletes. He emphasized that the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees attach great importance to supporting students in various sports aspects and academically, to enhance their excellence and distinction at various levels.
Bahraini Sports Day 2023

In February, the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrates the Bahraini Sports Day in its fourth edition, with the university participating to highlight the role and importance of sports.
Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ammar Kaka, the university’s President, and organized by the Student Affairs Department and the Sports Club, the Bahraini Sports Day took place, starting at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 2, 2222. The day kicked off with a marathon around the university campus, covering a distance of 2 kilometers. Participants included senior management, university faculty, administrative staff, as well as students and alumni. The sports day featured various activities, including ball balance games, water bucket challenge, rope jumping, tug of war, ball-in-cup challenge, arrow shooting, target shooting, air hockey competition, and a FIFA22 tournament for students and graduates held in the games room of the administrative building. In the FIFA22 tournament, graduate Badr Khaled secured the first place, followed by student Ali Issa Rabie in second place. The winners of the first positions were honored with cash prizes.
As part of Bahrain’s activities for the Sports Day, held at the Bahrain International Circuit, the Volunteer Club and the Student Council organized the Olympic Committee event for two consecutive days from February 2 to 4, 2222. The Olympic Committee entrusted the complete organization of the event to the Volunteer Club, led by students Saud Al-Dosari and Naif Abduhalla. The committee also conveyed its gratitude to the university and awarded certificates of appreciation to the participating students.
ASU CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOR FOOTBALL 2019

On Friday 05 July 2019, the ASU sports club in co-operation with the students’ council for its 12th cycle organised an internal football league for ASU students and alumni held under the patronage of Prof. Ghassan Aouad at Riffa views soccer fields where seven teams from ASU students and one team from ASU alumni participated in the league divided in two groups. The league started at 5:00 pm supervised by the student services office manager, Mr. Mohammed Al Najjar, and ASU football team captain Abdullah Waheed. Students played competitively and yet kept the brotherhood spirit and sportsmanship in the matches which were refereed by our certified students. Four teams qualified to the semi-final stage of the league which was played in the presence of Prof. Ghassan Aouad, Dr. Ayman Al Dumoor and Mr. Mohammed Nassar. Prof. Ghassan was impressed with the skills of our students and saw some new talents scouted by Abdullah Waheed to go through the trials to join ASU football team next year in the National Bahraini Universities league. The final game was played between the Alumni team (SWAT) and students’ team (ISA TOWN) where the experience of our alumni won the students talent 3-1 and won the title. Prof. Ghassan and Prof. Ayman thanked our students and alumni for showing the true value of sportsmanship and awarded the winning team with the league trophy. They also praised ASU sports club and student council members for the well-organised event that our students and alumni enjoyed.

ASU participated in two categories of the championship: The first category where Dr. Mohammed Al Hamami and Dr. Belal Rababa participated and the 2nd category was for Students, where our accounting and finance student Rashed Sanad participated. Most of the Bahraini Universities competed in this championship, where ASU proved again they belong in the first place through the outstanding performance of student Rashid Sanad who started the championship by winning over Al-Ahlia university 3-0, followed by a win against AMA international university 3-1 which qualified him to the semi-finals where he played against UOB and won again with a comeback 3-2. Rashid reached the final competition with a minor injury in his leg, but with the support of Dr. Ayman Al Dmoor, acting Dean of The Deanship of Student Affairs, members of students’ council and Mr. Mohammed Al Najjar the Student Services Office Manager. Rashid overcame his injury and won the gold medal for ASU against Gulf University 3-1. Rashid was congratulated by Prof. Ghassan directly after the final game through a phone call after watching his game a live on ASU Instagram account. Prof. Ghassan expressed his excitement as he was watching Rashid playing the final game and thanked him for an outstanding performance.

Applied Science University Collaborates with the Bahrain Basketball Federation

Applied Science University signed an agreement of collaboration with the Bahrain Basketball Federation to implement the scholarship programme of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa for national teams and clubs under the Bahrain Basketball Federation.
The programme corresponds with the national programme “Response” launched by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
The collaboration will benefit both the University and the Bahrain Basketball Federation. Together, they create a successful community partnership by sharing aspirations, coordinating efforts related to sports, and conducting sports events with a vision.
Professor Ghassan Aouad, the President of the University said that the collaboration signifies the University’s keenness to support national activities and correspond with the national programme “Response”.
Professor Aouad noted that the University’s intentions and initiatives for collaborations focus on enhancing and developing its role in serving the Bahraini society and supporting government and private institutions in various fields of sports, coaching and education.

The university relocated to its new purpose-built campus in September 2013, covering an area of 24,000 sq. meters. It is designed to accommodate around 2,100 students at the same time and to reach a capacity of 6,300 students distributed across mornings, evenings and weekends. The campus provides a suitable educational atmosphere in accordance with the highest international and local standards using the latest electronic technology in classrooms.

On 13 February 2018, in synchronizing with the celebration of the Kingdom of Bahrain, ASU organized a sport day in the campus from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event consisted of different sports mainly walkathon, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, baby foot, chess and other activities. Staff students, and local community participated in the event where the University President Prof Ghassan insisted that sports are a significant factor in the students and staff daily life, he added that “Healthy mind is in a healthy body”. The winners of all sports activities have been honoured. Many students, staff and local community enjoyed the sports day as it broke the daily routine.
