It is located at the third floor at Academic building, room No. S327. ASU ensures that the Health Unit is always properly staffed and accessible during working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The nurse can be contacted via phone at this number: 16036107. The nurse provides basic medical first aid services, as well as referral to other health professionals if needed and keeps students’ health records/files. This is a free and confidential service. The health Unit also participates in creating awareness of lifelong wellbeing Programmes. Beside the Health Unit, ASU has first aiders as follows available at each floor across the University campus to deal with any medical emergencies before the Health Unit nurse arrival, students who suffer an accident or health mishap during the days of the University, it is emphasized that all the health services that ASU offers are for all its students and staff, these services are free of charged The University, wishing to provide its students with the most optimal health services, has given the purpose of the unit, to deal with any health issue regarding students and staff, whether it be sexual and reproductive health or any type of disease that affects the academic community.

ASU has a clinic that can attend to the students and staff outside the facilities in case of emergency or for any other situation that arises, the students and staff can use this service because they are members of the academic community.
Student Counselling

ASU “Student Counselling” is a specialized unit to deal with psychological issues of students and staff, with the purpose of giving sexual orientation, psychological and educational. The Student Counselling office helps to solve educational, social, psychological, and health related issues that students may encounter during their academic study at ASU and ensures that where this requires the services of external professional advice or assistance that the student is directed to the appropriate people or agencies who can provide help. The student counselling manager also deals with students with special needs. coordinates with relevant parties to ensure that, whilst preserving confidentiality, other academic or support staff are aware of any exceptional circumstances which may impinge on the student’s academic work. The Student Counselling office further strives to develop positive values and attitudes within students and motivates them to strive for excellence in their academic achievement.
Celebrating Stronger Together Event in Conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mental Health Day
On October 14th as part of the University’s commitment to health awareness and action, it marked a special event in conjunction with both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Mental Health Day, titled “Stronger Together”, under the patronage of Professor Hatem Masri, the University President. The event was organised by the Counselling Office and Student Service Office, in collaboration with the Health Unit, Woman Club and Student Council 17th Cycle, bringing together healthcare professionals, foundational entities, and clinical centres, who have all collaborated to grow the knowledge of breast cancer and to promote mental health wellbeing.
The event saw the noticeable engagement of students, academic and administrative members who enthusiastically participated in various activities organised throughout the day at the University campus to raise such health awareness, which incorporated awareness session, free medical check-ups and consultations offered by medical healthcare professionals from various hospitals, providing the participants direct access to medical advice and preventive care.
During the day, an awareness lecture titled “The Impact of Positive Thinking and the Components of Happiness on Mental Health” was delivered at Abdulla Nass Hall and aimed to raise awareness about the significance of positive thinking and its effect on personal happiness and long-term mental health. This is in addition to the key medical services offered at the event, where the participants had their chance to learn about early symptoms, detection methods, treatment options, and the importance of regular screenings.
It is worth emphasizing that hosting such health events is not solely to educate individuals but also to empower them to take charge of their health. Events like this can effectively serve as a reminder of the value of early detection and the strength of a community that shares a collective sense of humanity.

Throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed under the slogan “HOPE.” Awareness campaigns are launched to spread knowledge about prevention methods, the importance of early detection, and psychological rehabilitation for patients during treatment, reflecting our commitment to responsibility and healthcare.
On Wednesday, October 11, the Health Clinic, in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs at ASU and Shifa Al-Jazeera Hospital, participated in a breast cancer awareness event. The event aimed to educate employees and students about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and received a large turnout. The event provided awareness tips on preventing breast cancer through early detection, healthy habits, and lifestyle changes that may reduce the risk of infection. It also emphasized maintaining a healthy weight and engaging in physical activity. Shifa Al-Jazeera Hospital offered medical examinations for attendees and distributed promotional coupons for medical check-ups, along with cups bearing the breast cancer logo.
Assessment of sexual and reproductive health knowledge and awareness among single unmarried women living in Bahrain
Applied Sciences University wants his students have access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including information and education services in this sense the Faculty of Medicine carried out a study “Assessment of sexual and reproductive health knowledge and awareness among single unmarried women living in Bahrain: a cross-sectional study”, which has as purpose the knowledge readily available among unmarried women aged between 17 and 55. Knowing the massive role of social media nowadays, the messages they present should contribute to enhancing the level of SRH knowledge and redirect attitudes and behaviors of unmarried females in Bahrain.
Conference “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights”

On April 2, 2021, a conference on sexual and reproductive health and rights was held in which the University in collaboration with Community Engagement and the speaker Dr Saeed Dulaimi spoke about sexuality and rights that people have regarding the health service as well as planning methods to use them and how to access them. Additionally, they talked about the psychological support and sexual orientation that the university offers through its “Student Counseling” which ASU offers [6].
Mother and Child Health services

Mother and Child Health services are provided to all citizens and residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially to the Applied Science University. These services include also an individual’s reproductive health. The Ministry of Health in Bahrain gives attention to an individual’s reproductive health by providing many services in mother and child health sections in health centers. The Kingdom of Bahrain has paid special attention to maternal and child health care programs, which have been and continue to be priorities of the Ministry of Health. Many health achievements have been achieved in the Kingdom, the results have been reflected by health indicators, and primary health care and maternal and child service programs have been instrumental in these achievements. Maternal and child services are provided in over 25 health centers accessible to all individuals and distributed throughout the kingdom. Health services are provided by family physicians and community service nurses who have been well trained through workshops and lectures to provide high-quality services to all citizens and residents of The Kingdom. Child and maternity care services are divided into:

As a part of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives, ASU presented by a many academic and administrative staff, students, alumni and their families; participated in “Spread Hope” Walk-A-Thon 2019. Bahrain Cancer Society organised the Walk-A-Thon under the theme “Spread Hope” on the festival month of Breast Cancer Awareness in Water Garden City, Seef District on October 25th, 2019. The University’s participation comes in fulfilment of its strategic vision and objectives, including Community Educational, Awareness and Humanitarian Activities, including support for voluntary and charitable societies and solidarity with cancer patients. The event was characterised by government institutions’ wide participation and Civil Society Institutions in various sectors and age groups.

Under the patronage of Applied Science University, the Community Engagement Office with the collaboration of “For You” voluntary team organised an event called “غالية لانج “in Enma Mall on Friday, 28 October 2016, on the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Dr. Mohammad Al-Hamami, the Director of Community Engagement Office said in his speech “ASU aim to achieve three main goals: to provide an academic education according to international standards, to encourage scientific research, and to strive for social responsibility and serve the local and regional community.” Mr. Thaer Mustafa, Dr. Hooreya Aldeeb, Dr. Ahmed Hassan, and Ms. Noora Musalam represented the University Community Engagement Office. A number of ASU staff members and students along with participants from local community attended the event. An awareness lecture was delivered by Dr. Maryam Fida, in addition to various activities that took place during the event.

On behalf of ASU, the Community Engagement Office and Deanship of Student Affairs, at the generous invitation of the Bahrain Cancer Society, participated in the walking festival that was held in Bahrain Bay on the occasion of the World Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The gathering to establish the marathon started at 3:00 p.m. and the walk began at 4:00 p.m. Some ASU staff and students participated in this event that included a huge number of participants from public and private sectors, institutes and organisations, and volunteers.

Event On 29 October 2017, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami attended “سيدتي علشانك event that has been organised by Bahrain Deserve Voluntary Team in Bahrain Mobility International Centre. The event aimed to spread awareness about breast cancer and included a lecture delivered by Dr Neven Khadem AlMasri and free different check-ups. At the end of the event, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami was awarded by Mrs Hana Dawasan, President of Bahrain Deserve Voluntary Team for all his support to the event. Members of Bahrain Mobility International Centre and the local community attended the event.

In collaboration with the Counseling Office, the Health Unit at the Applied Science University organized a virtual lecture on Thursday, June 11, 2023, about “Iron Deficiency Anemia in Pregnant Women and Family Stability.” The lecture was attended by a number of male and female students and faculty members. This lecture was part of the “My Protection” program dedicated to the well-being of women and children. It was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, conducted by the university’s Health Services Directorate.
Nurse Fareeda Al-Balushi commenced the virtual lecture by introducing the “My Protection” program and its objectives. She mentioned that the lecture on iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women and family stability marked the conclusion of a series of lectures under the “My Protection” program. The lecture was presented by Professor Zainab Al-Afia, a health promotion management specialist. She highlighted that iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common conditions during pregnancy, discussing symptoms like fatigue, paleness, increased heart rate, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, and others. She also enumerated iron-rich dietary options.
At the conclusion of the lecture, Nurse Fareeda Al-Balushi and Officer Mawza Al-Dhuwadi extended sincere gratitude and appreciation to all members of the Health Promotion Directorate at the Ministry of Health for their remarkable efforts in the “My Protection” program. They commended their exceptional dedication to the service of the nation and citizens, supporting volunteer work and community partnership in the realm of women’s health.

“In collaboration with Dr. Mai El Shaby at the Applied Science University, the Health Unit organized a series of informative sessions for female students, faculty members, and university staff members through visual communication programs on women’s health within the ‘My Protection’ program. This initiative is undertaken in cooperation with the Health Promotion and Awareness Unit of the Ministry of Health, aimed at enhancing public health awareness.
The sessions are designed to raise awareness among the general community, focusing on various aspects of women’s health and well-being. The program is a proactive awareness project targeting women of all ages, providing them with essential information and promoting health-conscious behavior.
The first session, titled ‘Women’s Health,’ was held on May 11, 2023, and was presented by Ms. Eman Jarrar. The second session, titled ‘Reproductive Health,’ took place on May 15, 2023, with Ms. Nama Al-Saud presenting. The program encompasses multiple topics under the umbrella of women’s health, including breastfeeding, postpartum care, reproductive health, self-care, and various other important health-related topics.
