Public events hosted by the University -  Public events (lifelong learning) 

The university has implemented various initiatives to provide opportunities for the general public to engage in educational activities and expand their knowledge and skills. One of these initiatives is the hosting of public events, such as lectures and educational workshops, visits and events that are open to the wider community. These events provide a platform for individuals to learn from experts in various fields and gain new insights and perspectives. By offering these public events, Applied Science University is contributing to the creation of a culture of lifelong learning and supporting the achievement of SDG 4, some of these public events are listed below:

On the occasion of the Kingdom’s 47th Glorious National Day and 19th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne, and as part of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University initiatives in supporting the community; the University received Down Syndrome Care Center and prepared a special day for them by rganized number of activities for them. ASU Academic and Administrative Staff, and Students participated in the activities that were rganized to the visitors such as drawing, playing games, face painting, doing magic with the magician, singing, dancing, and distributing gifts to the visitors. At the beginning of the day, the visitors had a warm welcome from the University. After that, the activities started by playing the National Anthem and distributing Kingdom of Bahrain flags to the visitors, then singings songs and poetries about the occasion of the Kingdom’s 47th Glorious National Day and 19th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne.The visitors had a fantastic time with the different activities, and they were pleased, they enjoyed the magic tricks provided by the magician, painting on pottery, face painting, participating in competitions, singing, dancing, and getting gifts. Also, a Number of Public Figures and Artists has been invited to participate in the activities of the event.

At the end of the visit that was on Wednesday, 12 December 2018, Down Syndrome Care Center management thanked Applied Science University for the memorable day and for supporting special needs and the community in general.

Within the initiatives and activities of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University; the University hosted a public debate titled “Allocation of seats for youth in the House of Representatives”. The event was organized by Bahrain Talent and Creativity Society and CE Office at Applied Science University.The event was held at Dome Hall in the University campus on Wednesday, 7 November 2018. Public figures, media personalities, local community, University Academic and Administrative Staff and Students attend the event.

Within the initiatives and activities of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University; the University hosted the second public debate titled “This Council Will Grant Maternity Leave to Parents”. The event was organized by Bahrain Talent and Creativity Society and Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University. Public figures, media personalities, local community, University Academic and Administrative Staff and Students attended the event. During the event, participants’ during their speech thanked and appreciated Applied Science University for its efforts in supporting the community and youth in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Also at the end of the event, Bahrain Talent and Creativity Society thanked the University for supporting the Society in organized its events.The event, which is a part of Bahrain Debates Project was held at Dome Hall in the University campus on Wednesday, 28 November 2018

As a part of the initiatives of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, CE Office in cooperation with College of Law organised a Lecture titled “Jurisdiction of the Bahraini Courts and the Procedure for Proceedings in Bahraini Civil Law” presented by the Secretary of the Court of Cassation/ Legal Researcher First Prof Hussein AbdulRahim AlShuwaikh in Dome Hall at the administrative building of the University on Thursday, 6 December 2018.

Within the activities of Applied Science University related to community Engagement, ASU hosted a Ceremony of honouring the distinguished Students of Al Eker village for the Academic Year 2018/2019.

The Ceremony held under the patronage of Applied Science University and organized by Al Eker Charitable Society. Applied Science University presented in the Ceremony of honouring the distinguished male Students by Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad President of ASU, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami Manager of Community Engagement Office, and Mr Ebrahim Abbas Habib, Security Supervisor in ASU while Mrs Ruqaya Mohsin Mahmoud, Marketing and Public Relations Director, and Ayat Nass, Executive Secretary in President’s Office presented ASU in the Ceremony of honouring the distinguished female Students. Habib Jaffar AlMaghni, one of the best students in the Academic Year 2018/2019, honoured by Prof Ghassan during the event. The Ceremony was held for two days on Friday and Saturday 5-6 July 2019 where 508 students honoured.

On Saturday, 6 October 2018, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received a delegation from the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations Support at Ministry of Labour and Social Development, included Mrs Najwa Abdullatif Janahi Director of the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations, and a number of Directorate staff. During the visit, Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of Applied Science University, welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the role played by the Directorate of Non-Government Organizations Support. For her side, Mrs Najwa commended the efforts of the University in the various fields, including supporting civil society institutions and the community.

During the visit, a coordination meeting was held between the visiting delegation and a Group of Academic Staff of the University to discuss ways of cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The visiting delegation was briefed on the University’s infrastructure, which included Abdullah Nass Hall, laboratories and classrooms, sports hall, and training and continuous learning centre.

On Thursday, 1 November 2018, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received a delegation from Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society. During the visit, Community Engagement Office and Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society discussed the executive procedures for the activities, that were previously agreed upon between the two sides.

On Monday, 19 November 2018, the CE Office received a delegation from Lameyya Cultural Salon. During the visit, CE Office and Lameyya Cultural Salon discussed ideas and the executive procedures for the activities that agreed upon between the two sides.

On Tuesday, 19 February 2019, Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received and met the International Organization for Child Protection (INOCPT) and a number of Heads of Associations with a speciality in the field of autism and early intervention centres and international organisations and those interested in autism. During the meeting, CE Office and visitors discussed cooperation frameworks and finding ways to raise awareness about Autism.

On Thursday, 14 March 2019, Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received and met a group of community service activists and Volunteers.

During the meeting, CE Office and visitors discussed the preparation for the activities that will be organised by the Office in cooperation with the International Organization for Child Protection (INOCPT) and a number of associations with a speciality in the field of childcare.

On Thursday, 28 March 2019, Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of Applied Science University received Mrs Fatima AlAli Specialist of strategic planning and projects management in the Capital Governorate. A coordination meeting was held in the President Office with the presence of Dr Mohammad Alaa Al- Hamami Manager of Community Engagement Office to discuss methods of cooperation between ASU and the Capital Governorate.

On Sunday, 5 May 2019, Prof Ghassan Fouad Aouad, President of Applied Science University with the presence of Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office received a delegation from Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society. The visiting delegation included Mrs Huda AlKhalidi Chairman of Board of Directors, Mrs Zain AlHasan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Salman AlSendi Secretary of the Society, and Mr Abdullah AlDosary Member of the Society.

At the beginning of the visit, Prof Ghassan welcomed the visiting delegation and appreciated Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society activities. The visiting delegation thanked ASU for supporting Bahrain Debates Project of Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society. This support comes as a part of the CE Office at ASU Initiatives to support and serve the community. Afterwards, a meeting was held to discuss future cooperation between ASU and Bahraini Talent and Creativity Society.

As a part of the Initiatives of Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, which includes the provision of consultations to civil society institutions by the University; the CE Office coordinate some meetings that will be held to provide consultations sessions to the Bahrain Deaf Society. Mr Salem Khalaf Salem Alateyyat will deliver the consultations sessions, a Lecturer in the College of Administrative Sciences at Applied Science University, to improve the Bahrain Deaf Society’s Strategic Plan.

On February 11th, 2020 with the celebration of the Kingdom of Bahrain of the Sports Day, the Sports Club, Student Council and other clubs organised many sports activities starting from 10:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event was attended by Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of Board of Trustees, Prof Ghassan Aouad, University President, the Senior Management, the Academic and the Administrative Staff and Students. The event consisted of different sports, mainly walkathon, Football Dart, PlayStation tournament, billiard tournament, chess, carom, Air hockey and other activities. In addition, a Gym (Sphnix) offered to check BMI to both students and staff members. All the participants enjoyed the sports day as it broke the daily routine.

ASU hosted the coordination meeting of the Bahrain Sports Federation for Universities with representatives of Universities in Kingdom of Bahrain headed by Shaikh Dr Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, President of the Federation, in preparation for the launch of the National Universities League 2019/ 2020.

 

Dr Ferzana AlMaraghi, Director of Scientific Research at the Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council, was hosted by ASU on November 28th where she delivered an exciting presentation titled “Bahraini Women in Higher Education”. The presentation, which was attended by many ASU Students and Staff, highlighted the History of Women’s Role in Education in the Kingdom and a study conducted by Dr Ferzana on the current state of women’s contribution in Higher Education. The presentation included a timeline of Higher Education in the Kingdom which showed that Bahraini women were pioneers in seeking Higher Education in the region where the first batch of female scholars seeking University level education abroad dates back to late 30’s. Dr Ferzana showed interesting and important statistics on the number of female students studying in various disciplines at Bahraini Higher Education Institutions which surpass the international norms. She mentioned that Bahrain has been ranked first in the world in the percentage of women studying Sciences and ranked among the highest ten countries in the world in the number of female students and graduates in most fields. Dr Ferzana also mentioned that Bahraini women have been assuming Higher Positions at Higher Education Institutions where there is a significant number of Female Heads of Departments, Deans and Vice Presidents which indicates the competence of Bahraini Women in the Higher Education Sector as well as in other sectors. She also emphasised that all this has resulted from the dedication and hard work of Bahraini women and the continuous efforts of his Majesty King Hamad bin Isa and the government on empowering women in all sectors.  The presentation was followed by an interactive session where the audience thanked Dr Ferzana for her interesting talk and the data she presented. The presentation was attended by Prof Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of the University and some Officials of the University.

On December 1st, 2019, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University represented by Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Office Manager received a delegation from the Royal Charity Organisation, which included Mr Alaa Yousef Boudlama Head of Programmes and Activities and Mrs Tuqa Hani El Sayed Charity and Humanitarian Projects Specialist. A meeting was held with the presence of Dr Mohamed Soltan, Acting Head of Department of Design and Arts, Mohammad Azzam, Manager of the VP Office for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, to discuss the future events that are hoped to be held and which is the culmination of the memorandum of understanding signed between Applied Science University and Royal Charity Organisation.

On December 5th, 2019, Applied Science University hosted a delegation from Al Eker Charitable Society represented by the Chairman Mr Ahmed Arafat, and Mr Mohammed Al-Mughni, Head of Public Relations Committee. The visiting delegation held a meeting to discuss cooperation between the two parties in the areas of community Engagement. The meeting was attended by Mr Abdulla Al- Khaja, Director of Administration and Finance Directorate and President Advisor for Follow-up Affairs, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office, Mr Mohammed Al-Najjar, Manager of Student Services Office at Deanship of Student Affairs, Mr Mohammad Nassar, Assistant Director of Administration and Finance Directorate, and Mr Hood Sadiq, Administrative Staff at Deanship of Student Affairs.

On January 15th, 2020, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University represented by Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of the Office, received a delegation from Ayadi Relief (Bahraini Relief Youth-Led Organisation). The Visiting Delegation included Mrs Shaikha Showaiter, General Manager, and Mrs Dalal Felaifel, Projects Manager in the Organisation. A meeting was held with the presence of Dr Mohammed Yousif, Vice President for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, Mr Abdulla Al-Khaja, Director of Administration and Finance Directorate and President Advisor for Follow-up Affairs, Mr Mohammad Azzam, Manager of the VP Office for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, and Mr Mohammad Nassar, Assistant Director of Administration and Finance Directorate to discuss ways of cooperation.

As a part of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University Initiatives, on January 22nd, 2020, a delegation from Friendship Society for the Blind represented by Mr Maitham Madan, spokesperson for the Friendship Society for the Blind visited ASU. During the visit, some coordination meetings were held with Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, Dr Mohammed Yousif, VP for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office and Associate Professor in Management Information Systems Department, Dr Bishir Mhd-Mowafak, Associate Professor in Department of Accounting and Finance, Dr Ibrahim Abu AlSondos, Assistant Professor in Management Information Systems Department, Dr Ammar Esam Alsammarraee, Assistant Professor in Department of Accounting and Finance, Mr Nizar Y.A. Naim, Lecturer in Department of Accounting and Finance, Mr Mohammad Azzam, Manager of the VP Office for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, and some Academic and Administrative Staff. These meetings come to complement the ongoing cooperation between Applied Science University and Friendship Society for the Blind to achieve the mission and strategic goals in relation to serving the Community and all its Groups.

As a part of the initiatives of the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University, on February 19th, 2020, Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, Dr Mohammed Yousif, VP for Administration, Finance and Community Engagement, and the Manager and some Community Engagement Office Members, received a delegation from Dar AlBer for parental care, affiliated to Al-Nour Charity Organisation.

On February 20th, 2020, Professor Ghassan Aouad, the University President, received in his Office the Bahraini Social Activist, Mr Yaqoob Mubarak, and Mr Gilberto Rosas from Mexico. The visit comes as part of the initiatives conducted by Community Engagement Office, in honour of Mr Yaqoob Mubarak’s voluntary efforts to represent the Kingdom in the Republic of Peru and his humanitarian efforts in reflecting the bright image of the Kingdom in international forums. Dr Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami attended the meeting, Manager of Community Engagement Office, Mrs Ruqaya Mohsin, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, and the Bahraini Social Activist Mrs Maysa AlSaati.

Under the patronage of Prof Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, and in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Campaign, the University held the Pink October event on 7th November, 2021. The event organised by the Women’s Club in cooperation with the Student Council in its 14th session, the Health Unit and the ASU Community Engagement Office.

Applied Science University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society on 17th March, 2022. The University’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding comes to achieve its strategic goals, including community partnership and Engagement. ASU was represented by Professor Ghassan Aouad, President of the University, and At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society was represented by Dr Hala Jamal, President of At’aa Individual Social Responsibility Society. The ceremony was held in Abdullah Nass hall with the attendance of Senior Management of both sides .

On 15th May, 2022, the ASU Community Engagement Office received a delegation from the Al Aker Charitable Society. The delegation included Mr Muhammad Al Mughni, President of the Society, Mrs Fatima Aqeel, Vice President of the Society, and Mr Muhammad Abdullah, Vice President of the Social Committee. A Coordination Meeting was held with the visiting delegation, in the presence of Dr Mohammad Al-Hamami, Manager of Community Engagement Office and Associate Professor in Department of Management Information Systems, Mr Mohammed Alnajjar, Office Manager of Student Services, Dr Wael Abdulhafeez, Head of Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, and Dr Hamdy Mahmoud, Acting Head of Internship Unit in College of Engineering, to discuss the future joint activities to be implemented.

As part of the Applied Science University’s initiatives for community engagement and service, the Directorate of Holy Quran Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Community Service Office at Applied Science University organized a lecture titled “Media content selection skills”, presented by Professor Murad Abdalah AlJanabi, Academic Staff in Department of Public Law, on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 4:00 PM, in Abdullah Nass Hall, to the Holy Quran activities and Programmes Coordinators in the Holy Quran teaching centers.

As part of the university's initiatives for community engagement and service, the Community Engagement Office, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Evidence, organized a Lecture on drug damage, presented by Major Hamad Rashed Al-Muhaiza, Head of the Criminal Information Division in the General Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Evidence on 30th November, 2022.

Receiving and a coordination meeting with the Seef Toastmasters Club

On Sunday, 5th March, 2023, the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University received a delegation from the Seef Toastmasters Club, which included Engineer Younes Abdel-Aal, President of the Club, Mr. Ibrahim Shamtoot, Chairman of the Logistics Committee at the Club, and Mr. Ghaleb Al-Arabi.

A coordination meeting was held between the visiting delegation and the Manager of the Community Engagement Office, Dr. Mohammad Alaa Al-Hamami, to discuss the joint activities that it is hoped will be implemented during the coming period.

In collaboration with the ASU Community Engagement Office, the Counselling Office of the Directorate of Student Affairs, delivered a Lecture titled “The Psychology of Marriage”, to ASU Students, on 3rd March, 2023. The Lecture was presented by Dr. Marwa Al-Mulla, Assistant Professor at the College of Arts - University of Bahrain.

As part of the Applied Science University's initiatives for community engagement and service, the university hosted a lecture in its classrooms entitled "Preparing Budgets and Conducting Financial Analyzes", organized by the Directorate of Holy Quran Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Community Service Office at Applied Science University on Tuesday, the 13th of May 2023.

The lecture to the Holy Quran Programme Coordinators (men) was presented by Dr. Ammar Al-Sammarraee, Associate Professor in the Accounting and Finance Department and Director of the Master's Program in Accounting and Finance.

As part of the Applied Science University's initiatives for community engagement and service, the university hosted a lecture in its classrooms entitled "Preparing Budgets and Conducting Financial Analyzes", organized by the Directorate of Holy Quran Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Community Service Office at Applied Science University on Tuesday, the 13th of May 2023.The lecture to the Holy Quran Programme Coordinators (women) was presented by Dr. Nadya Al Shareeda, Assistant Professor in the Accounting and Finance Department.

In collaboration with the ASU Community Engagement Office, the Counselling Office of the Deanship of Student Affairs, delivered a Lecture titled “Psychological security”, to ASU Students, on 21st May, 2023. The Workshop was presented by Professor Murad Abdalah AlJanabi, Academic Staff in Department of Public Law.

As part of the Applied Science University's initiatives for community engagement and service, the university hosted in its laboratories a training lecture entitled "How to use the Excel program to prepare activities and businesses", organized by the Directorate of Holy Quran Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Community Service Office at Applied Science University.

As part of the Applied Science University's initiatives for community engagement and service, the university hosted in its laboratories a training lecture entitled "How to use the Excel program to prepare activities and businesses", organized by the Directorate of Holy Quran Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Community Engagement Office at Applied Science University.

The training lecture was presented by Dr. Ahmed Saleh Shatat, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Management Information Systems at the College of Administrative Sciences, on Tuesday, the 19th of June 2023, to the Holy Quran Programme Coordinators (women) in the Holy Quran teaching centers.

The centre has played a vital role in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. From 2019 to January 2023, the Business Incubator Centre has supervised 219 start-ups, benefiting over 800 students. Moreover, the Centre has won several awards, including the Best Company winner for the year 2019 at Injaz Bahrain, the Boeing Stem Challenge Award by Injaz AlArab, and the 2019 Product of the Year Award by Injaz AlArab. The Centre has also secured 2nd place in the Youth Solutions Initiative organized by the Arab Youth Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth & Sports – Bahrain – 2019.  In total, more than 2685 students have benefited from the Centre, where over 50 activities focused on entrepreneurship and innovation have taken place. The University has recognized the importance of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation and has included "Entrepreneurship and innovation" in its strategic plan. This commitment ensures the development of a robust and supportive environment that fosters entrepreneurship and innovation, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce and thriving society. Overall, the Business Incubator Centre's activities have provided students with hands-on experience in entrepreneurship and innovation, preparing them for successful careers and contributing to the development of a robust economy. By fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, Applied Science University is contributing to the achievement of SDG 4 by promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
